Club History
Kwinana bowls joined the Royal Western Australian Bowls Association (R.W.A.B.A.) in 1961.
It was not all smooth sailing for the bowlers. In 1976 the Kwinana Country Club proposed a substantial fee increase which the bowlers did not take too kindly to and in 1977 they decided to sever ties with the District club and pursue a new purpose built facility in the leafy suburb of MEDINA on land leased from the Kwinana Town Council. The first ground is broken in August 1977 and clearing of land begins.
During construction of their new home the Cockburn Bowling Club kindly offered the Kwinana bowlers the use of their facilities for practise and to play their pennants matches there. To cut costs down many members help out during the construction and the ladies in particular beautify the surrounds.
On August 2, 1978 the newly formed Kwinana Bowling & Recreational Club held its first Annual General Meeting at the Kwinana United Football Club. Fees for the first year were set at $20.00.
The club house stage 1 was officially opened on December 22, 1979. The completed clubhouse was officially opened in 1982.
In the ensuing years the club undergoes significant changes;
Economic circumstances sees synthetic surfaces replace the original grass greens
Lighting is installed on two of the three remaining greens to enable night time play.
Colour is introduced to bowls uniforms
Community bowls are introduced which sees bowlers number increase
Today the club is well placed to continue in its efforts to encourage, promote and advance the sport of bowls within the Kwinana community as a viable sporting option.
